Karen (Borup) Heaton

I Karen Heaton will now attempt to sum up ten years of my life as quickly as possible. After high school I went to Ricks College for 2 years. Ricks college was a lot like High School with no parents and more rules. I don't really remember sleeping our studying but I did survive and made it out alive and single. This picture was taken my first day of college. After my two year stint of college I prayerfully decided to go on a mission. I was blessed to be called to serve in the Australia Adelaide mission. I spent about half of my mission living on a beautiful island named Kangaroo Island. It was very rural with dirt roads and wildlife galore. I saw my share of Australian wildlife. Mostly in the form of road kill.

It was an amazing adventure. I learned so much about myself. I have a greater understanding of what it takes to truly be happy. I eagerly await the day when I can return and visit some of my life long friends. After my mission my older sister convinced me to move to Utah and live with her and her family. I got a job working as a personal aid to an eight year old Autistic boy. I had the opportunity to retake first and second grade. It was challenging but also very rewarding. It was during this time that I met my husband Matthew. After some time we dated and eventually married. Together we decided that he would enter the military. My husband serves as a Chinese linguist in the United States Air Force. Since our marriage four years ago we have lived in Idaho, California, Texas, and Hawaii. It is an honor to be a military wife. We are currently living in Hawaii on Oahu. We purchased a condo here and have spent a lot of time remodeling. It's been an adjustment living in 800 SF with no storage space or yard. I guess I was spoiled growing up in Idaho. I can't complain because I see large families living in smaller spaces. My life at the moment is pretty simple. I stay very busy with church responsibilities. I work from home part time babysitting. We have no children of our own yet but that is the plan. Hawaii is a beautiful place to live and I try to appreciate it's beauty every day. I look forward to future posts from all of you. It's fun to see how everyone is doing. As for myself life is great. My life is filled with much happiness. Aloha

Centennial's Blog

In case you hadn't seen it yet, Centennial's 1997 grads have a blog as well. In fact, that is where the idea for this blog came from. (Think of it as flattery, not stealing, Centennial.) I know that many of us started off at Centennial before Eagle opened; if you fit into that category be sure to check it out and see what our former fellow classmates are up to!

It's raining babies!!

I think I may have posted this twice...I'm sorry but I have a mommy mush brain right now. I'll fix it if so. Well, I guess you could say I've lived a couple of lifetimes in the last 10 years. I have missed everyone in high school so much since leaving, but such is life. I have been in college, doing well, for a loooooong time because I kept having to transfer due to family issues. I received an associates degree in interpersonal communication at Ricks college, studied writing at the Metropolitan State college of Denver (almost finished, then had to leave), and English at BYU (once again, almost finished, had to leave...UGH!!!). I certified as an aerobics instructor in high school and have been working in that field on and off for many years. I still enjoy composing music and writing, but I don't have much time to do anything between the diaper changings, soothings, playtimes, and teaching times of my two little ones. I was told a couple weeks after being married that I had a condition that could cause me to be unable to have children. I went through some icky treatment, then decided to try to get pregnant. I was so excited when we actually found out I was expecting! Then, to our great sadness, I lost my baby. It was pretty much like a nightmare. But we got through it, tried again, and to my joy I became pregnant again. I had a rough pregnancy and a challenging natural childbirth, something I had always wanted to do, and had the most beautiful baby girl. We named her Kassidy. Well, then fate decided to step in with a sense of humor. I was still recovering from Kassidy's birth when I became pregnant AGAIN (and AGAIN had a natural childbirth with no drugs at all even though she was turned with her skull on my spine...no, I'm not crazy...). Don't get me wrong...what a blessing...but the timing? Well, let's just say I guess in this life you are taught the lesson of patience more times than you can count. I gave birth twice in a year and eight days!! I had another difficult pregnancy while trying to care for an infant, and it still makes me dizzy trying to entertain two babies in two different stages of development....it's like having twins but people have told me it is more difficult because they are on different levels, so you have to come up with double the activities, different dinners, etc. They are the most beautiful baby girls!! I am very blessed but they are high-maintainance blessings for sure!! I don't have many opportunities to sing anymore, and I don't own a piano. That has been a little sad for me, but I try to remember that there are seasons to life, and in this season I am trying to enjoy every ounce of baby dimples and giggles that I can. They grow up so fast. I am so excited to see what everyone is up to. I'm glad we have this site!!
